Significant Something – MAR/APR.15 WRAP-UP

Again I am a tad late, well a whole month late which rather than complain about each month I have decided to make this a bi-monthly project. It certainly is not for lack of ideas or things I want to try it is simply that I am busy, very busy.

So here is March’s significant something project, doodling. I had a tonne of fun with this and hope I can get some time to explore this a little more. The background didn’t turn out exactly as I had planned so will definitely be playing around with that next time but the doodling on a canvas – yay!

Discovered my copic multi-liners are superbly suited to this task and am still playing with the brush – like version of these but not yet happy with the results.

So hopefully…enjoy!

Oh, because I am fast running out of storage this little number is for sale in my etsy store for the hot little price of $30 plus postage. There are a few other works there too at the moment if you want to see more of the doodling storm I am whipping up here of late.

Significant Something – MAR. 15

I spend a lot of time doodling, lately stitch-doodling as well. Everyone keeps asking me to put my doodles on canvas so I am succumbing to the nagging and doing it. Welcome to the March #significantsomething project.

SS#MAR.15 – CANVAS DOODLES

AIM: To doodle on a canvas instead of my doodle book
TIMEFRAME: 1 month

Keep track of progress on Instagram and I will report back in a month to let you know how it went!

Significant Something – FEB.15 WRAP-UP

Again I am a tad late and this month I can’t blame the cat vomiting on the artwork. Life has simply been manic.
So manic in fact that I changed the project to better fit in with the sketch/watercolour groove I have had this past month.

Every time I get this ticket collection out I get one of those warm fuzzies in my gut. I think about how these lovely little stamped typographical delights were such a regular part of so many people’s day and disregarded they were. Look at them now, simply lovely. Enjoy!

Significant Something – JAN.15 WRAP-UP

Ok ok, I know this is late but I promise I have been trying to get this done.

January, as expected, was a diabolically insane busy month. So this project kind of had to evolve along the way to fit in with what little time I had. There was also the little hurdle mid-month when the cat decided to puke on the stitching (yeah trust my luck hey!).

But anyway here it is. Enjoy!

significant something – feb.15

Yes yes yes before you leap up and down about how I have not yet completed the January significant something project let me assure you that it is happening and it’s not for lack of trying! I will have it up here in just a few more days times (there’s a whole story about a cat, puke and accidental tearing that I will fill you in on).

In the meantime here is February’s project.

SS#FEB.15 – STITCHING TICKETS

AIM: To prepare a stitched version of these vintage train tickets.
TIMEFRAME: 1 month

significant something – jan.15

In trying to decide what to do this month I can’t help but think how little time I will have available.

Yeah yeah I know we are all time poor people, but the kids are on school holidays, everything is still semi-closed or at least on holiday mode I hear you say you should have heaps of time. Sadly from the first week in January I am full-swing back into the busiest January work schedule I have had in some years.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining but I have been looking for an easy project to undertake. Yes ok, a cop out.

So this month’s project is….

SS#JAN.15 – DOODLE-STITCH SWATCHES

AIM: To create a tonne of doodle-stitch swatches for use on design projects (aka use stitching as a relaxing activity in a month that will be manic to the max!).
TIMEFRAME: 1 month

Keep track of progress on Instagram and I will report back in a month to let you know how it went!

significant something – dec.14 wrap-up

Well this is the first significant something wrap-up (yay I did it).

As introduced here this month saw the beginning of the significant something projects. A wreath. Sounds so simple. Not so.

I had in my mind this magically perfect wreath of poms poms and felt. In reality there was no time for pom poms (you know December can be a little crazy) or perfectly cut circles of felt.

So I drew on my skills learnt at a workshop I undertook at the Burrawang DNA Festival with Alex Faulkiner. Messy stitching or doodle-stitching as I like to refer to it.

So in summary my wreath is messy woollen balls stitched together and decorated with feature stitches of nothing. And I love it! Enjoy.

Have you ever made a wreath? Did it work out perfectly for you?

something significant – dec.14

Welcome to the second first ‘significant something’.

About 18 months ago I decided to try my hand at this blogging jazz. I did some courses. I tested the waters. And I started to get my groove on. But it still didn’t feel quite right. I took a break and got my head around a few things about my business, my crafting, my art and exactly what is was that I wanted to put out there.

One little idea about a self-project challenge resulted in ‘significant something’. A month long project I decide I want to do … and well basically I do it.

The idea is to hold me accountable for completing something with my hands. As a designer I spend a huge amount of time at the computer and I miss the tactile experience of accomplishing something with my hands.

So to kick things off, I have decided on something festive.

SS#DEC.14 – Christmas wreath

AIM: To use a heap of felt and wool/strand I have lying around the studio to create a felt circle/pom pop-esque door wreath.
TIMEFRAME: 1 month

Keep track of progress on Instagram and I will report back in a month to let you know how it went!
